What is it about?
Soil cyanobacterial communities experiment dramatic changes in abundance and diversity during early succesion, However we still lack knowledge about how soil cyanobacterial communities change as soil develops, and the effects of vegetation on them. We used a set of 16 globally distributed soil chronosequences across very different ecosystems (from deserts to tropical forests) with molecular analyses to investigate how the diversity and abundance of photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic soil cyanobacteria change from hundreds to thousands of years.
