What is it about?
The maize MATRILINEAL gene for haploid induction is conserved in cereals. A second wave of ROS post-mitosis during matrilineal pollen maturation appeared to be responsible for observed DNA damage that may result in chromosome fragmentation and hence chromosome elimination during haploid seed induction in wheat. The finding might provide niches to develop novel techniques in double haploid plant breeding.
