Crafting the plant root metabolome for improved microbe‐assisted stress resilience

What is it about?

Plant metabolites are key chemical signals mediating the reassembly of root microbiota in response to environmental stresses. We synthesize recent findings in the roles of root metabolites and microbiota in helping plants overcome environmental stresses. We further propose integrated synthetic biology approaches for engineering plant root metabolome to manipulate root microbiota for improved plant resistance to stresses under climate change.
