Individual tree damage dominates mortality risk factors across six tropical forests

What is it about?

While increases in tree mortality are reported worldwide, the relative importance of mortality risk factors remains unknown in tropical forests. Using a comprehensive dataset on multiple conditions of living trees, we found that tree-level damage (i.e., crown and trunk damage) is the main mortality risk factor across six tropical forests.
