What is it about?

The pathogen Agrobacterium tumefaciens colonizes the galls it causes on host plants, and the roots of host and non-host plants. We used a genome-wide approach (transposon sequencing) to discover Agrobacterium tumefaciens genes involved in reproductive success (fitness genes) on Solanum lycopersicum (tomato plant) and Populus trichocarpa (poplar) galls and Solanum lycopersicum and Zea mays (maize) roots. We used this knowledge to develop plant protection approaches against this pathogen.
