What is it about?
Secondary cell wall biosynthesis has been shown to be regulated by a suite of transcription factors. We uncovered a new xylem vessel-specific NAC domain transcription factor (SND5) in Arabidopsis for its role in regulating secondary wall biosynthesis and showed that SND5, its Arabidopsis close homologs and poplar orthologs regulate the expression of secondary wall-associated genes through activating the secondary wall NAC binding elements. Our findings provide new insights into the secondary wall NAC-mediated transcriptional network regulating secondary wall biosynthesis.
