What is it about?

In the perennial tree species, Populus tremula x alba, the juvenile-to-adult developmental transition occurs after 3 months of growth and is marked by changes in many traits, including the petiole morphology that leads to leaf fluttering. Interestingly, we find this developmental transition progresses in a similar manner regardless of whether plants are propagated from seeds or cuttings.
