What is it about?

A massive production of endogenous sRNAs from coding genes is associates to viral infections. We show for the first time common target pathways in Arabidopsis and crops which release functional 21- and 22-nt viral-associated (va)siRNAs upon infection of Cauliflower mosaic virus. We reveal important role for 22-nt vasiRNAs in the plant’s endogenous RNA silencing response.
