What is it about?

Plants are exposed to infection by pathogenic microorganisms, and one example of agricultural relevance is the interaction of potato plants with the pathogenic oomycete Phytophthora infestans. The first line of contact between microbes and plant cells is the plasma membrane, and it has recently been shown that membrane lipid composition changes during infection. We show for the first time that potato plants produce an enzyme that localizes to infection sites and counteracts pathogen-triggered membrane changes.
