Variation in key leaf photosynthetic traits across wheat wild relatives is accession dependent not species dependent

What is it about?

Originating from all over the world, the wild relatives of modern wheat represent an under-utilised source of genetic and phenotypic diversity for improving modern varieties. For the first time, we explore natural variation in leaf photosynthetic traits across a wide range of genera, species and accessions. We conclude that extensive variation exists which could be utilised to improve modern wheat varieties.
