Why is it important?
Our findings show that flowering plants with unique morphologies were present and locally abundant in the Early Cretaceous. This indicates that extinction had an important role in shaping the evolutionary tree of angiosperms.
Perspectives
I hope this work stimulates other researches in looking for unexpected morphologies in the early fossil record of the angiosperms, and that pushes to take the reconstructions made entirely from extant species with more skepticism.
