What is it about?
Wetland plants have porous roots so that oxygen can diffuse to the root tips and sustain growth and proliferation of stem cells. We show that lateral roots, in addition to adventitious roots, form a barrier to oxygen in order to restrict oxygen loss to the anoxic soil.
