What is it about?

Mannans are an abundant cell wall polysaccharide in bryophytes, seedless vascular plants and gymnosperms. We show for the first time that mannans from moss and Selaginella are acetylated glucomannans, the recruitment of the DUF231 genes as mannan O-acetyltransferases likely occurred in bryophytes and the biochemical functions of these O-acetyltransferases are evolutionarily conserved throughout land plants.
