What is it about?

We propose that the contemporary perspective of plant phenotypes is incomplete, as it largely overlooks that plant characteristics are in constant flux and vary extensively within individuals. Instead, we elaborate the perspective that plant phenotypes are dynamic mosaics. We support this argument with evidence from genetic, developmental, morphological, ecological and evolutionary studies concerning angiosperm reproduction. This is the first integrated presentation of these ideas that illustrates how dynamic mosaics arise, function and diversify, as well as providing guidance concerning their measurement and analysis.
