What is it about?
Fungal plant diseases are a major threat to the production of cereal crops. Here, we unraveled the molecular function of Lr34, one of the most frequently used disease resistance genes in wheat breeding. We show that the ABC transporter encoded by Lr34 acts as a transporter of the plant hormone abscisic acid, which links this molecule to Lr34-mediated durable disease resistance.
