What is it about?
The role of root growth in plant competition is poorly understood. Here we study the genetic basis of convergent evolution in weed-associated root growth in two independently-evolved strains of weedy rice. We find abundant evidence that different genetic pathways can be co-opted in the evolution of weedy traits.
