What is it about?
Studying the infection biology of plant pathogens is facilitated when both partners are genetically tractable. Smut fungi are excellent model pathogens, but their host plants are genetically complex. Here, we present the genome and the infection transcriptome of the smut fungus Thecaphora thlaspeos, which is related to devastating pathogens and can infect genetically tractable model plants.
