What is it about?

Atmospheric CO2 enrichment usually increases grassland productivity, but the magnitude of the productivity-CO2 response differs among ecosystems. We tested whether differences in soil properties could contribute to differences in the productivity-CO2 response among ecosystems. We demonstrate that increasing CO2 from the pre-industrial concentration to a level anticipated mid-century elicited a large and positive increase in grassland productivity that, contrary to expectation, was expressed similarly across soils of different properties over 10 years.
