What is it about?

Major crops such as maize and sorghum have a highly efficient mechanism for photosynthesis, known as the C4 pathway. Adding C4 characteristics to C3 crops such as rice could result in higher productivity, but we will need to understand the basic controls of C4 leaf anatomy. We summarize recent work in this area and suggest ares for future research.
