Aphid infestation leads to plant part‐specific changes in phloem sap chemistry, which may indicate niche construction

What is it about?

We studied the effects of aphid infestation on phloem sap chemistry. We could show that the plant responses are highly specific for the chemotype, plant part, metabolite group and aphid species. Aphid infestation may lead to an increase in the nutritional value of the preferred plant part, indicating niche construction.
