What is it about?

According to common opinions, plants adapt to aridity by decrease of leaf area and increase of leaf thickness and density. We show for the first time that steppe plants adapt to increasing aridity by increasing of integral mesophyll parameters as well by decreasing of chlorophyll concentration per chloroplast rather than by changing of leaf size or density.
