What is it about?
Potassium ions circulating in the plant vasculature system can energize other transport processes, as sugar retrieval for instance. We explain the concept of energizing membrane transport processes in an ATP-independent manner and point to similarities with the mechanism of nutrient exchange in arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis and fungal infection.
