What is it about?

Despite the importance of seed dispersal for survival of plant species in fragmented landscapes, data on seed dispersal at landscape scales remains sparse. In a fragmented tropical landscape we found that seed dispersal of a tree species can be very localized even if the size and the movement capability of the major bird disperser would allow otherwise. This raises serious concerns about the potential of many tropical trees to re-colonize isolated forest patches where high value tree species have already been removed.
