What is it about?
Indeterminate root growth is maintained by a different pathway. Here we report that a folate-dependent pathway is required to sustain growth.

Why is it important?
We found that vitamin B9 or folates are essential to prevent complete root apical meristem exhaustion.
Perspectives
In search of developmental control mechanisms involved in root growth maintenance we found that metabolic pathways are of a paramount importance for stem cell function. This work represents a case of one of such pathways. We currently are revealing another one. This shows that there are multiple mechanisms to maintain stem cell activity and root growth and we are facing new challenges.
