What is it about?

We treated the patients with Parkinson's disease by the electrode-guided stereotaxic brain surgery targeting the thalamus. We monitored electrical brain activities for targeting during the surgery and analyzing the parkinsonian pathology. We proposed a method to quantify the thalamic brain activities representing clinical parkinsonian symptoms, tremor and rigidity.

Why is it important?

Quantitative relationships between the parkinsonian symptoms and their marker brain activities have not been established. They are important for exploring the evidence-based treatment.

Perspectives

Our clinic is specialized for the stereotaxic brain surgery. Quantifying the symptom-brain relationships will be investigated by using some large population of patients with the informed concent.
