What is it about?

A comprehensive analysis of Ala2 tRNA processing pathway from the alaW alaX operon is presented. RNase E initiates the processing by removing the terminator followed by separation of the pre-tRNAs by the RNase P. Failure to separate the pre-tRNAs by RNase P results in poly(A) mediated degradation of alaW alaX RNA by RNase R and PNPase. RNase E encoded by the rne-1 allele retains ~99% of the catalytic activity at the nonpermissive temperature.
