What is it about?

The ribonuclease RNase P is known to be essential for the 5'-end maturation of every tRNAs in all kingdom of life. Our RNA-seq analyses of the transcriptome of the rnpA49 temperature sensitive mutant showed that the enzyme also affects the abundance of RNAs other than tRNAs, suggesting it plays a major role in post-transcriptional RNA metabolism in E. coli. PAP I mediated polyadenylation modulates the abundance of ~10% of the transcripts in the absence of RNase P.
