Cells constantly accumulate RNA-DNA hybrids throughout the chromosome that compromise genome integrity if the RNA component is not removed. We identify a previously uncharacterized plasmid encoded gene that cleaves RNA-DNA hybrids to promote genome integrity but not plasmid maintenance or hyper-replication
