What is it about?
Pathogenic mycobacteria, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, use type VII secretion systems to export important virulence factors across their special cell envelope. Here, we provide insight in the recognition of these proteins by the transport machinery, by showing the importance of a small domain in the central ATPase of the system in species-specific secretion.
