What is it about?

Microbes interact with their environment and other individuals with cell surface proteins. An emerging theme is that various types of C-terminal protein sorting tags direct some proteins to the surface of Gram-negative bacteria. For the first time we characterize a widely distributed (putative) sorting tag from myxobacteria, and provide evidence for postranslational modification and surface localization mediated by the type II secretion pathway.
