What is it about?

Alternaria alternata is a typical food contaminating fungus. It produces a variety of different mycotoxins, the most prominent of which is alternariol. Here we discovered the biosynthetic pathway for alternariol and its derivatives and found that alternariol is important for tomato, apple and citrus colonization.
