What is it about?
Lyme borreliosis spirochetes are transmitted from ticks to vertebrate hosts including mammals, birds, reptiles, and humans. Different strains of Borrelia infect different hosts, but the molecular driving force for this specificity is unknown. In this review we discuss host variability, host immune responses to infection, host resistance, spirochete host evasion, barriers associated with investigating host-Lyme borreliae, and future work.
