What is it about?
The H-NS protein is a general repressor of transcription in Escherichia coli and other Enterobacteria. H-NS binds AT-rich DNA and forms extended complexes on the DNA which prevent gene expression. We show that transcription directed towards a repressing H-NS complex causes de-repression. The data suggest interference between transcription and repression of transcription mediated by H-NS-DNA complexes.
