What is it about?

The cell division machinery is a dynamics and complex assembly of over 30 different proteins, we have imaged a few key proteins using super resolution STED to examine the internal organization of this complex.

Why is it important?

Our findings suggest that there is a large spatial separation between some proteins that work in their own sub complexes during constriction, suggesting that this assembly of proteins should be considered as many small complexes working together.

Perspectives

By trapping cells standing in a vertical position can the full ring be imaged in one image, without the need for advanced 3D reconstruction approached as normally used. This allows us the see the proteins in the complex in an undistorted way.
