What is it about?
Mammalian hosts respond to invading bacteria with the production of a number of highly antimicrobial oxidants, including bleach, hypobromous acids and hypothiocyanate. Here we investigate how toxic these oxidants are for bacteria, and what defense mechanisms bacteria developed to protect themselves against these oxidative insults. Our ultimate goal is to sensitize bacteria towards these oxidants, allowing the mammalian host to ward off infections more effectively.
