Campylobacter jejuni is the leading cause of bacterial gastroenteritis world wide. This bacteria causes disease by invading the epithelial cells of the human intestine. This study reveals for the first time that relaxation of DNA supercoiling may act as a signal to cause the bacteria to secrete proteins which help it to invade the human intestine.
