What is it about?

Cyclic AMP (cAMP) plays an important role in the regulation of metabolism in many bacteria including Corynebacterium glutamicum,where it acts as effector of the global transcriptional regulator GlxR. We identified the first cAMP phosphodiesterase (CpdA) in this actinobacterial species and show that the lack of CpdA causes an levated cAMP level, extensive changes in gene expression, and strong growth defects. CpdA is highly conserved in Actinobacteria, including important pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
