What is it about?
Methanotrophic bacteria provide complex carbon to the base of food chains in the deep sea. Yet, no representative methanotrophic bacteria from the deep sea have been described in significant detail. By providing high resolution imaging coupled with detailed lipid and transcriptional analysis, during growth and starvation, this report lays the groundwork to establish Methyloprofundus sedimenti as a model methanotrophic bacterium from the deep sea.
