What is it about?

The present essay addresses the question of whether the ethical theory called Flourishing Ethics is potentially a global ethical framework that prioritizes human flourishing while, at the same time, accommodating cultural diversity. It focuses upon possible use of AI LLMs as moral advisers; and it is intended to support current worldwide efforts to keep AI developments within the bounds of universal ethical principles.

Why is it important?

People all over the world, including CEOs of AI-LLM companies, are worried that humans will lose control of AI devices; and so the AI makers want to find a way to instill excellent ethics rules into the AI devices to control them before the AI devices do great harm to humanity. This article explains a way to make AI devices into helpful ethical advisers FOR HUMANS worldwide; but unhappily, could not identify a way to actually make AI-LLMs obey ethical rules themselves because of the way their operating systems function.

Perspectives

The article provides an excellent description of ethical theories that are called Flourishing Ethics theories. And it explains how to turn AI devices into useful moral advisers for humans all over the world using Flourishing Ethics. It also explains why ethical theories cannot be programmed into the operating systems of today's AI devises themselves in order to make such devices behave ethically. Apparently, this cannot be done in today's AI entities, so new types of AI devices will have to be invented.
