What is it about?
Invasive species might become successful through mating with individuals dissimilar to themselves. Such mixing can be human-mediated and occur in the native range, or within the range the species is introduced in. We argue both processes should be considered. This study shows that the highly allergenic common ragweed has mixed within Europe, and has subsequently been introduced to Australia.

Why is it important?
Understanding the multiple reasons why a species becomes invasive will provide answers to ecological and evolutionary questions. These insights can be adopted into management strategies of invasive species, which have a huge impact on the economy and human health.
