What is it about?

What happens to intergenerational care when family members live in different countries? This article explores how Indian transnational families use phones and webcams to provide care to their elderly parents at a distance.

Why is it important?

The article shows that adult children do not abandon their parents when they migrate abroad, but that with migration, care practices change such that they include ICTs.

Perspectives

In this piece, I argue that migration does not equal abandonment and that it is for people to provide care even when they don't live together. I also show that not only new innovative technologies are useful for care, but that everyday ICTs work well for that purpose too.
