What is it about?

Understanding the factors affect Catch per unit effort (CPUE) is crucial in fisheries assessment and management. For the first time, we have demonstrated how to estimate and standardize CPUE from recreational angling in Lake Toya, the approach that can be replicated in other types of fisheries.

Why is it important?

The work uses a new and an important tool in stock assessment.

Perspectives

Recreational fishing has contributed to stock exploitation in the world. Our work is important to fisheries scientists, managers and stakeholders as it demonstrates how to estimate and standardize CPUE using fishing information from fishers. The work is also useful in stock assessment.
