What is it about?

Immortalised cell lines are widely used as a simple model for more complex biological systems, for example for the studies of complex diseases, such as cancers. Tumor cell lines may not represent well the cancers that they are labelled for due to the culture environment and misidentification. We identified some of commonly used hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines not representative for HCC using the gene expression patterns which are unique for HCC cell lines.

Why is it important?

When carrying out cell line studies, caution should be taken for using hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines. We provide an effective method to select proper hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines for biological experiments.
