This is a longitudinal study of how a second language user of English develops in his use of negation in interaction across 7 months.

Why is it important?

This study shows how English negation is learned one small piece at a time, rather than as the acquisition of a complete system. It also shows the importance for language learning of memorized chunks or formulas.
