What is it about?

Although previous knowledge of the predator menace is an important condition to develop anti-predator reactions, we found that invasive tadpoles of Discoglossus pictus are able to effectively display and use them in front of native predators after a short time of coexistence. Most possibly, similarity of predators from the original range and the introduced range of tadpoles allow them to recognize the threat.

Why is it important?

This data highlights the importance of assessing ecological and taxonomical similarities between the biota from the original and introduced ranges of invasive species, since the it can be crucial for the predator-prey dynamics of invasive species.

Perspectives

In my case, it confirmed the suspicion that the invasive species I'm studying comes "not from so far away" in terms of ecology and evolution, acting as half-native half-invasive species in the area.
