What is it about?

Transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) is a noninvasive technique to evaluate cerebral blood flow. The clinical usefulness of TCD in diagnosing intracranial hypertension has not been demonstrated for canine brain diseases. This paper shows that new TCD vascular resistance parameter (Sm/Dm) was elevated in dogs with intracranial hypertension.

Why is it important?

This is the first paper in veterinary clinical medicine to show TCD can be a useful tool for diagnosis of intracranial hypertension. TCD is a noninvasive and simple technique to use in clinical works.

Perspectives

In this paper, we show the usefulness of TCD to diagnose intracranial hypertension. As mentioned in the discussion, if we could include dogs with more severe intracranial hypertension, TCD might be a more sensitive tool to diagnose.
