What is it about?

The article discusses why social scientists need a theory or a set of integrated theories for systematically explaining human behaviour. I review and constructively critique one such theory, i.e. rational choice theory. I also examine how it can be enriched by drawing on social-psychological research on human cognition.

Why is it important?

It is important because rational choice theory is often misunderstood and therefore incorrectly critiqued.

Perspectives

I hope the article corrects for misunderstandings of rational choice theory.
