What is it about?

Scientometric methods enable us to measure the status quo of research in social entrepreneurship by use of bibliometric data and by examining the institutionalization of research in social entrepreneurship in seven dimensions, revealing the emerging organizational and scientific structures of the field. The paper provides an evidence-based overview on this field of research and ist emerging structures; it describes its historical development and points at strength and weaknesses in the progress of research and at methodological challenges and gaps in the research questions that have been asked so far.

Why is it important?

The paper is especially useful to scholars who are new to the field of social entrepreneurship research, seeking for an introduction not just in terms of literature review but also in terms of the institutionalized structure of the field, including a brief overview on leading scholars, conferences, publication outlets, textbooks, universities and institutions etc. But we found that also established scholars in social entrepreneurship did find our paper very useful.
