What is it about?

Hemp seed oil is rich in omega - 3 fatty acid. When we add it to poultry diet it may increase omega -3 fatty acid in meat and egg. Therefore we can obtain better quality products.

Why is it important?

Cannabis seeds contain high ratio linoleic acid (omega 6) and α-linolenic (omega 3) fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are important in act the functions of eye and brain in the body, hypertension, and nervous system disorders. It is reported that α-linolenic acid may cause a decrease in cardiovascular disease by decreasing triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol, and total cholesterol levels in blood.

Perspectives

Due to presence of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinoid (THC), which is a physicochemical substance in plant buds and flowers the hemp production restricted many countires. However, industrial hemps contain lower concentration of THC even below %0.3 and allowed its farming in some countries. Nowaday there are some novel findings hemp seed content is ver valuable for basic nutrient and some functional properties. I think, industrial Cannabis sativa should be promoted for farming to get new products and encouraged to achieve higher value added products.
