What is it about?

Using a computerized surgical guide for implant surgery became widely accepted due to its several advantages. Despite the advantages of guided implant surgery one of its drawbacks is heat generation as it can cause higher heat generation than conventional techniques due to friction and the drill guide itself prevents the proper delivery of the irrigation fluid. In this study, we introduced a modified design of the guiding sleeve to improve cooling delivery and compared the effect of the different designs of the guiding sleeves on the intraosseous heat generation during guided implant site preparation.

Why is it important?

Impaired cooling delivery during implant site preparation may jeopardize the process of healing and osseointegration. So we tried to ensure proper cooling and avoid reaching the critical threshold of bone thermal necrosis via using different designs of guiding holes and different irrigation fluid temperatures during guided implant surgery.
